8 samples of milk lifted

Food Safety Officer (FSO) Subhash Chander carried out a special drive to check adulteration in milk on Saturday and lifted eight samples from dairies and milk vendors from Ambala City, Ambala Cantonment and Naraingarh.

He said, “Eights samples have been taken from dairies and milk vendors and these will be sent to the Food Laboratory at Karnal for analysis.”

Meanwhile, as many as 16 of 94 samples taken by the Food and Drugs Administration during the recent festive season have been found to be substandard.

According to information, the results of all 94 samples have arrived and 78 of these have been found to be genuine while 16 have failed. The failed samples comprise one of desi ghee that was found to be substandard, misbranded and also misleading, one of ‘peda’ sweets that is prohibited, three of ‘paneer’, two of ‘meetha khoya’, seven of ‘khoya’, and one each of ‘moong daal’ and ‘khoya barfi’. Subhash said, “The results of all samples taken during the festival season have arrived and 16 of them have failed. While notices have been served on nine shop owners, five cases are being pursued in the court of ADC.

Hundreds of quintals of unhygienic sweets are offloaded in markets of Amabala district for Diwali. Manufacturing units prepare sweets without paying attention to unclean premises and utensils and the products are stored in advance to meet the requirement. — TNS
