Karnal, June 19

With the arrest of three persons, the Karnal police have claimed to have solved an eight-month-old murder case.

The body of a man, identified as Mahinder of Salwan village, was found in the Hansi branch of the Yamuna canal at Madina village in Rohtak district on November 1 last year.

The deceased’s brother-in-law (wife’s brother), identified as Usan of Munak village in Gharaunda, was allegedly behind the murder. He, along with his accomplices Rakesh and Vinod, both residents of Munak village, allegedly killed Mahinder as the latter was demanding money from him, said Surinder Singh Bhoria, Superintendent of Police.

Mahinder had gone missing on October 23 last year and his wife Salochana had filed a missing complaint at the Assandh police station on October 31.

After finding Mahinder’s body riddled with two bullets, the police added Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC to the case on November 4, the SP said, adding that the identification of the deceased was established with the help of his Aadhaar card found in his pocket.

Bhoria had sought a report on unsolved murder cases and directed the CIA-1 to investigate the case of Mahinder. “A CIA-1 team solved the murder mystery in few days. Team members, led by Inspector Virender Singh, suspected the involvement of the deceased’s brother-in-law in the case and arrested him, along with his two accomplices, on Monday,” said the SP.

During interrogation, Usan confessed to the crime and said he shot at his brother-in-law twice and threw the body in the canal, the SP maintained. “We have recovered a country-made pistol, four live cartridges and the SUV used in the crime,” Bhoria said.
