Gurugram, October 20

An unusual incident of murder and attempt to commit suicide has surfaced in a posh locality of DLF Phase-Two here.

While the police recovered the body of a 70-year-old woman Manjit Kaur at noon, her husband, found in a critically injured condition, was admitted to a hospital.

It was reported that the couple, upset at losing Rs 40 lakh to a known person, had decided to commit suicide by leaving behind a handwritten suicide note.

The police, who were informed by a kin of the old couple that they had committed suicide in their apartment, identified the man as Gurvinder Singh (72) in an injured condition. The body of his wife was lying in the same room of the house.

It was revealed that Gurvinder Singh had informed one of his kin residing in Punjab about their decision before taking the step. The woman’s throat was slit, allegedly by Gurvinder Singh with a sharp object before he resorted to cut his veins with a knife in order to commit suicide.

A suicide note left by the couple revealed that they had decided to end their lives on their own.

While the couple was residing alone, it was reported that they had loaned an amount of Rs 40 lakh to a family friend Jaskaran a few months ago. But after learning that Jaskaran had been missing since October 14, the couple panicked, resulting in their deciding this move. The body of the woman was sent for post-mortem. Cops were waiting for the kin of the couple who had informed them about the incident, said a police official.
