Chandigarh, October 17

Even as the BJP has put off its state-level rally at Karnal on November 1 in the wake of unavailability of BJP chief Amit Shah, the party will kick off its election campaign as part of the completion of its four years in office on October 26 by holding 22 rallies in all districts.

The first rally is being planned at Rohtak on October 27 to mark the birth anniversary of former Deputy Chief Minister Mangal Sein where Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar along with several ministers will kick off the party’s campaign for next year’s Parliamentary and Assembly elections.

Broad contours of intensive electoral campaign were discussed at the informal meeting of the Cabinet here last night in which it was decided to make Agriculture Minister OP Dhankar as the convener of the rallies to mark four years of the Khattar government.

Cooperation Minister Manish Grover told The Tribune that the Chief Minister would also dedicate a 2.5-km elevated road to the general public in Rohtak on October 27.

Grover said each rally would be attended by several ministers, including the Chief Minister, depending upon their availability. Besides, the BJP workers at the grassroots would be mobilised to make them battle-ready first for the municipal corporation elections in December-January and later Parliamentary and Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, Rajiv Jain, media adviser to the Chief Minister, clarified that the November 1 Karnal rally had only been postponed and would be organised on a bigger scale when Amit Shah was available.

Start from Oct 27

  • First rally to be held at Rohtak on October 27
  • Agriculture Minister OP Dhankar to be coordinator of district-level rallies
  • State-level rally at Karnal on November 1 put off; to be organised on bigger scale later
