Panipat, June 20

In all, 36 persons have taken ill due to diarrhoea and gastroenteritis in the district’s Shimla Mulana village.

A team of the Health Department visited the village on Wednesday and set up a camp, while a team of the Public Health Department collected samples of water.

Shimla Mulana sarpanch Pinki claimed one or two persons from each household were affected due to the disease.

Civil Surgeon Dr SL Verma and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Navin Suneja also visited the village.

Dr Amit Dahiya from Community Health Centre, Dadlana, said: “I, along with others, visited about 215 houses on Wednesday and screened 1,045 persons. We found 36 cases of diarrhoea and health authorities have provided treatment to patients.”

Only a picket of the village was affected due to diarrhoea, Dr Dahiya said, adding the cause of the disease might be the supply of contaminated water.

“The condition of all patients is normal. The Health Department team has provided ORS packets, tablets and antibiotics to patients and other villagers,” Dr Verma said.
