Palwal, June 18

The first General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) Training College of the district set up by the Health Department more than three years ago remains non-functional.

Constructed for Rs9 crore, the college campus is in the Civil Hospital here. It was built in 2014-15, but Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the college on August 13 last year.

The annual intake capacity of the college is 60.

“The department has received queries from nursing aspirants about the college. No one knows when the first session will start. In the absence of a deadline, the prospect of it becoming functional this year appears bleak,” an employee of the department said.

The session was expected to start soon after the inauguration of the college, but the authorities failed to appoint the teaching and non-teaching faculty.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Pradeep Sharma, who joined here recently, said he would look into the matter.

Deputy CMO Dr Jai Bhagwan said a file for the approval of posts and the budget had been submitted. “The posts and budget are likely to be sanctioned soon,” he said.

Local Congress MLA Karan Dalal said it the BJP government was not serious about the college that was built during the previous Congress government. “The government is discriminating against the district. The college is not the lone case. Several projects are hanging fire. These include the construction of Transport Nagar and a sports complex, and augmentation of water and sewerage system,” he added.
