2 students, 5 lecturers die in Ambala mishap

Seven persons — two students and five college lecturers of SRM Institute of Engineering and Technology and Swami Devi Dayal Group of Institutes — were killed when the bus they were travelling in collided head-on with a dumper near Rajpur village on the Saha-Sahjadpur road near here at 8.35 am today.

The mishap occurred when the dumper was overtaking another vehicle on the road and it collided with the college bus. Both the vehicles were reported to be travelling at a high speed. The ill-fated bus was ferrying 29 persons from Ambala to SRM Institute of Engineering and Technology (SRMIET) located at Kohra-Bhura (Bhurewala) in Naraingarh.

The driver and helper of the dumper escaped. Those killed have been identified as Vipin, a woman lecturer, and Parminder Singh, Deepak Sharma, Kesar Singh and Amir Khan, all lecturers. The students, who died in the mishap, are: Ankit and Manish, both third year B.Tech students of the SRM institute.
