Chandigarh, September 11

A 79-year-old Gurugram resident on Wednesday moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking orders or report by Justice TP Garg Commission, set up for looking into each case related to 1984 riots.

Describing himself as a victim of the riots, petitioner Santokh Singh Sawhney submitted that he had not been provided with a copy, order or judgment of the commission despite submissions and averments.

His counsel claimed that the pleas had not culminated into specific orders by the commission. “No order has been transmitted to the petitioner,” he stated.

He pointed out that the commission had been set up to assess the losses suffered by various individuals, but no specific policy or yardstick was formulated.

Taking up the matter, the High Court asked the state counsel to seek instructions in the matter. — TNS
