Chandigarh, February 17

With an eye on the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP government is set to regularise the services of about 14,000 guest teachers in the state.

For this, the Haryana Guest Teachers Security of Service Bill 2019 would be tabled in the forthcoming Budget session beginning February 20, sources said.

The draft Bill has been prepared on the initiative of Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, who had promised regular jobs to guest teachers before the Assembly elections in 2014. Sources said 13,746 guest teachers, who had completed 10 years of service as on January 31, 2019, would benefit from the government decision.

Around 22,000 guest teachers were appointed by the previous Congress régime in 2005-06 to tide over the shortage of teachers. — TNS
