Deputy Commissioner SS Phulia has recommended the Additional Chief Secretary, Development and Panchayats Department, to take appropriate action against a Zila Parishad member who concealed information regarding a criminal case registered against him in his nomination papers.

The DC has recommended action against Ram Gopal Sharma, ZP member, on the basis of an inquiry report prepared by Prem Chand, SDM, Jagadhri.

The complainant, Sanjeev Kumar of Palewala village, had alleged that Ram Gopal Sharma submitted a false affidavit with his nomination papers to contest the election of ZP member.

He alleged that an FIR had been registered against him on June, 12, 2012, when he was the sarpanch of Jathlana village.

Ram Gopal Sharma was dismissed from the post of sarpanch after the allegations were proven against him in 2013. His appeal against the decision was dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The complainant said as per the Haryana Panchayati Raj Act 1994, a person who was declared ineligible for the post of sarpanch, panch, member of Block Samiti and ZP could not fight election for five years.
