Mandi, December 8

The Mandi police have launched a special motorcycle to keep an eye on the violation of traffic rules in the district.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohit Chawla today said the motorcycle ‘Road Eye’ is “loaded with modern equipment”. He said the helmet of the rider was fitted with a high-definition camera which could even read the number plate of a vehicle and the pillion rider would be carrying a challan book.

He said the mobile camera would help check violations and eve-teasing incidents and provide security to women.

“Now, we have an eye on the road to keep a check on traffic violations,” he said.

The first in the state, low-maintenance, all-weather mobike with no extra operating cost, fitted with 32 GB capacity camera, was procured from abroad from the department’s own funds, he added.

The SP said the camera was waterproof and could be used in underwater search operations in case of a mishap. The data of the camera would be cleared everyday and the traffic police would maintain the database at least for a year, he added.

The motorcycle was flagged off by Municipal Council president Sushila Soukhla in the presence of councillors and police officials.
