Youth found dead in Sukhna Lake

The body of a 25-year-old youth was found in Sukhna Lake this afternoon. The deceased, a Sector 30 resident, was working as a salesman in a cloth store in Sector 19.

The police suspect it to be a case of suicide. However, the actual cause of death will be known only after the postmortem. The Police Control Room received information around 1 pm regarding a body floating in the lake.

The patrolling party of the Lake police post rushed to the spot and took out the body.

Inspector Dalbir Singh, SHO of the Sector 3 police station, said the deceased had been identified as Shubham, a resident of Sector 30.

The victim had left the house on Sunday evening after informing his parents that he would get late. However, the victim did not return at night. The victim’s family searched for him, but could not find him.

The body was taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police officials said prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide. However, no suicide note was found.

The body has been kept in the mortuary and the postmortem will be conducted tomorrow. Police sources said they were yet to find out the time when the incident took place. The call detail record of the victim would be scrutinised by the police. Meanwhile, inquest proceedings have been initiated.
