A 20-year-old youth was killed when the scooter he was driving was hit by a recklessly driven tractor at the airport light point this morning

According to the police, the victim, identified as Raghunandan, a resident of Colony No. 4, Industrial Area, Phase I, was driving towards Zirakpur when the tractor, which was being driven by Sukhbir Singh, hit the scooter at the light point.

A PCR vehicle rushed the victim to the PGI, where he was declared brought dead.

A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life and personal safety of others) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. The tractor driver, a resident of Patiala district, was arrested by the police and later released on bail. The accident led to traffic snarls on the Chandigarh-Zirakpur road.

Accident-prone spot

The airport light point figures among the accident-prone spots identified by the UT traffic police in the city. According to the road accident analysis cell, 23 deaths have been reported from the airport light point in the past three years.
