Youth dies as car hits two-wheeler

CHANDIGARH: A 24-year-old two-wheeler rider, Sumit Kumar, was killed while the pillion rider, Lalit (23), was injured in a road accident at the Sector 36/37 light point last night.

A 24-year-old two-wheeler rider, Sumit Kumar, was killed while the pillion rider, Lalit (23), was injured in a road accident at the Sector 36/37 light point last night. The two-wheeler was hit by a speeding i20 car, which was being driven by Ayunsh Singh of Sirhind.

The police have arrested the car driver and impounded the car. Sumit was a resident of Sector 19 and used to work at a salon. Lalit also resides in Sector 19.

Lalit suffered multiple fractures and has been admitted to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16. His condition is stated to be stable. The police claimed that the two-wheeler riders were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

Sumit succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. He was the youngest among three siblings. His father had died a few years ago. The victim was a college dropout.

3 hurt in hit-and-run

In another accident, three persons were injured when a car sped away after hitting a motorcycle yesterday. Karan Singh, a resident of Hisar district in Haryana, reported that the car driver sped away after hitting his motorcycle at the Sector 33/45 light point. He and two other persons, Sukhwinder and Nanu, got injured.
