JAGRAON: A youth allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his room at Fatehgarh Choorian village near Jagraon last night.

A youth allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his room at Fatehgarh Choorian village near Jagraon last night.

The deceased has been identified as Gurjinder Singh, alias Soni (28), a resident of Fatehgarh Choorian village.

The incident came to light today morning, when the family members of the victim went to his room after he did not come out fora long time. When the father of the victim reached his room, he found thevictim hanging from the ceiling fan.

Soon, the news spread across the village and a large number of people gathered outside the victim’s house. Some villagers informed the police about hte incident, following which a police team led by ASI Jasvir Singh reached the spot and took the dead body into the custody.

As per the sources, the victim was mentally-ill and was under a lot of stress for past some time. The police handed over the dead body of the victim to his family members after conducting a postmortem at the Civil Hospital in Jagraon.

ASI Jasvir Singh, investigating officer, said the police had registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC after recording the statements of the family members of the victim. Investigation is on.
