Yamunanagar, October 4

The issue involving social boycott of Dalits in Sabapur village of the district was resolved today after the district administration brokered peace between the Dalits and members of the backward communities.

Ishwar Singh, a member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, had visited the village on September 30 and met members of the Dalit and backward communities.

The Dalits had alleged that they had not been allowed to enter their fields since September 27. Their cattle had been starving in the absence of fodder and even shopkeepers of the village had boycotted them.

However, members of the backward communities told the commission that they had neither boycotted, nor banned the entry of the Dalits in their fields.

With the active participation of Deputy Commissioner (DC) SS Phulia, members of both the communities today held a meeting in the village and decided to resolve their issues.

The DC said members of the backward community had given in writing that they would restore peace and brotherhood in the village.

Earlier, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes had summoned to Delhi the Haryana Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) over this issue on October 10.
