The Doon School Model United Nations (DSMUN) Conference started at The Doon School here today. A simulation of the world’s diplomatic realities, the conference is hosting 427 delegates from 37 schools from India, Nepal, Bangladesh and the UAE.

In commemoration of the 70th Year of the United Nations, the school hosted one of India’s premier diplomats—former Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh as the chief guest on the occasion. In her speech, she described India’s diplomatic policies in context of the current global developments, as well as elaborated on the future path the country may take to further its interests. This was followed by an informative question-answer session with the chief guest. School headmaster Dr Peter McLaughlin; Master-in-Charge of DSMUN Mohit Sinha; president of DSMUN Nikhil Saraf; and Secretary-General of DSMUN Devansh Agarwal also delivered speeches on the same subject.

During the committee session besides the Security Council and General Assembly Committees, this year the DSMUN boasts of unique committees such as a Special Convention on Religion and Terror, 16th Lok Sabha, and three futuristic state Cabinet meetings of Russia, India and China. Though lying outside the ambit of the UN, these novel committees still test delegates on their general knowledge, quick thinking abilities and skills.
