World Bank will provide an assistance of Rs 960 crore for increasing green cover in the state. The proposal has been approved by the screening committee of the Union Ministry of Finance. 

Chief secretary S Ramaswamy said that the money would be spent on core activities such as plantation in forest areas, tackling forest fires, man-animal conflict and sustainable livelihood, etc.

He said that around 470 crore will be spent on tackling forest fire and conservation of water resources.

Around 47 percent of the funds would be spent on integrated forest management, while 36 percent of the funds would be spent on tackling livelihood issues such as man- animal conflict and promoting eco-tourism. — TNS
