Punjab Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Jagmeet Singh Brar today said that he would confine himself to campaigning for party candidates and not contest the elections.

“I have decided not to contest elections. It might have affected the campaign of party candidates,” he said after announcing four TMC nominees.

They are former Youth Congress leader Jagdeep Goldy Kamboj from Jalalabad, English lecturer Lachman Singh from Budhlada, former BSP MLA Hargopal Singh from Balachaur and industrialist Harbans Singh from Ludhiana South. With this, the party has fielded 22 nominees.

“The party is expected to field at least 40 nominees. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee will address six rallies in the last week of January,” Brar said.

Asked if the TMC would field candidates from Lambi or Jalalabad, he reiterated that the TMC had not finalised any name from either of the seats. “If no suitable candidate is found, the TMC will support the candidate of a party except for the SAD and the Congress.”

Brar termed Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh a coward on his plans to contest from Lambi and Patiala.

On former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu joining the Congress, Brar added Sidhu would not bring a major change in the political scenario of the state.
