BATALA: A government schoolteacher was shot dead by two youths, who were allegedly under the influence of drugs, during a marriage here this afternoon.

A government schoolteacher was shot dead by two youths, who were allegedly under the influence of drugs, during a marriage here this afternoon. The incident happened after victim Rupinder Kaur (32) objected to lewd remarks passed at her by the accused.

Rupinder of Batala village was a computer teacher at Government Senior Secondary School in Wadala Granthia. The bullet pierced through her head.

Daljinder Singh Dhillon, SSP, said a murder case had been registered against Parminder Singh of Dalla village and Nav Karan Singh of Aulakh Kalan village.

Sukhdev Singh, husband of the deceased, said, “When I and my children were coming back from an ice-cream stall, I saw two youths pointing a pistol at my wife’s head. Before I could realise what was happening, one of the accused opened fire, following which she collapsed,” he said. The accused were overpowered by people and handed over to the police. — TNS
