A 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide after giving poison to her two children following a heated argument with her husband here last evening.

Karamjeet Kaur (28) poisoned her children -- 18-month-old Gurkirat Singh and Gurleen Kaur (7) -- and then took poison at her residence in Manakpur village in Rajpura.

All of them were taken to a private hospital in Rajpura from where they were referred to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where doctors declared them brought dead, police sources said.

The victim, Karamjeet Kaur, had married Ravinder Singh of Manakpur in 2010. The couple had two children. Police sources said the victim’s husband was a habitual drinker and a drug addict.

Karamjeet often used to have fights with Ravinder over the issue.

In his complaint to the police, the victim’s father, Sukhdev Singh, alleged that his daughter was harassed by Ravinder and she was even physically assaulted and abused. He said earlier the matter was resolved many a time on the intervention of the village panchayat.

The couple reportedly had an argument on Saturday following which Kamarjeet poisoned her two children and then took poison herself.

The police have registered an FIR against Ravinder Singh. No arrest had been made till the filing of this report.
