In a broad daylight snatching incident, two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a 61-year-old woman in Sector 41, who got injured after giving a tough fight to one of the snatchers.
The victim, Saroj Gupta, had come outside her house to buy vegetables from a street vendor around 1.30 pm. As she was busy purchasing vegetables, two miscreants riding a black motorcycle came and stopped near the vegetable vendor.
One of them got down from the motorcycle while his accomplice was waiting for him a few metres ahead.
The accused came near the vendor on the pretext of enquiring about the vegetable prices and snatched the woman's gold chain.
The victim tried to push the accused and pull the chain back. However, he managed to take away the chain. The victim tried to chase the snatcher, but fell on the road.
The woman raised the alarm, but the accused managed to flee from the spot.
The police were informed about the incident who visited the spot. A local resident said the snatchers passed the street twice and on seeing the woman standing alone, they came back.
The UT police have failed to curb snatching incidents, which has instilled fear among city residents.
