Woman dies of suspected dengue

A 35-year-old woman of Sector 51 died of suspected dengue here today. The deceased was under treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, for the past few days.

Dr Anil Garg, nodal officer for the dengue-control programme, said teams of the Health Department visited Sector 51, where they came to know about the death of the patient.

He said the patient had reportedly left the GMCH yesterday against the advice of the doctors. Dr Garg said it was yet to be confirmed whether the deceased was suffering from dengue.

This is the third death due to suspected dengue in the city this season.

Meanwhile, 17 more persons were found to be suffering from dengue during the past 24 hours in the city. With this, the total number of dengue patients so far has reached 389.

During a special drive involving more than 200 teams, including volunteers of the NSS and staff of the National Vector-Borne Disease-Control Programme, 17,927 houses were surveyed today to keep a check on mosquito-breeding sites. A total of 38 notices and 10 challans were issued to people after such sites were found on their premises.
