Fazilka, February 24

A 25-year-old pregnant woman Ramandeep Kaur died in civil hospital, Abohar, during her delivery. Her family alleged that negligence of the hospital staff led to her death.

Inderjit Singh of Danewala Satkosi village in Fazilka district said his sister Ramandeep Kaur was admitted to the Abohar civil hospital on February 19 for delivery. He alleged that the nurse on duty began treating Kaur on her own. As a result, she started bleeding. The doctor was called, but her condition worsened. She was also taken to the operation theatre.

Finally, the family members were advised to shift her to a higher institution. But she died at the hospital on February 20.

The deceased’s relatives have lodged a complaint with the state government, Deputy Commissioner Fazilka and Human Rights Commission.

“Villagers will stage a protest at civil hospital, Abohar, on February 25 demanding action against the erring officials,” said Inderjit Singh.

Surinder Kumar, Civil Surgeon, Fazilka, said SMO, civil hospital, Abohar, has informed him that seven units of blood were administered to Kaur. He maintained that all efforts were made to save her. He said he would conduct an inquiry into the matter on February 27 after returning from leave.
