Amritsar, May 6

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has called upon Sikhs across the world to stand united to re-acquire the land of Gurdwara Gian Godri at Haridwar.

His call came in reaction to a request made by a joint delegation of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, led by its president Manjit Singh GK, and the SGPC, led by its general secretary Amarjit Singh Chawla, who today met him at the Akal Takht secretariat.

Giani Gurbachan Singh asked the Sikh Sangat across the country and abroad to recite Japuji Sahib and Ardas at their nearest gurdwara on May 14. He said the Sikh community should sink their differences and come together to re-establish the Sikh place of worship at its original space. He also asked Damdami Taksal, Nihang Singh organisaions, Nirmale Samparda, Nanaksar Samparda, Sabha Societies and other Sikh organisations to come together for the cause.

Manjit Singh GK said the gurdwara, associated with Guru Nanak Dev, was built near Har Ki Pauri, embankment of the Ganga in Uttarakhand and demolished in 1978-79. The space is occupied by an office of Scouts and Guides. He said the land was embroiled in a dispute between UP and Uttarakhand governments.
