MP Kirron Kher lashed out at the PEC University of Technology authorities for omitting her name from three of the four foundation stones during the opening of a newly built academic block of the university here today. She was furious and termed it a “lapse of protocol”.

During the event, Kirron expressed disappointment over the omission and said she was saddened by it.  “I’m happy that PEC invited me for the inauguration. Whenever PEC needs me, I’m there. I have taken up the issues of PEC with the Centre on numerous occasions,” said the MP.

She went on to add that protocol demanded that her name be placed on the stones. “If you are inviting me, shouldn’t my name be there, too,” she asked PEC Director Manoj K Arora. Kirron asked the PEC Director to take note of the lapse.

“This is not the first time such a thing has happened with me. I have been meted out this treatment on several occasions in Chandigarh, but I never said anything. I’ve spoken up for the first time today,” said a livid Kirron.

Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, an associate of the MP said there were four inaugurations at PEC. “The foundation stone for the first three didn’t have Kirron’s name. Only the fourth one outside the academic block carried her name. Her name was, however, placed at the far end,” he said.

The MP’s associate said Kirron’s name should have been placed just below the Governor’s and not at the far end as she was an MP. “The lapse hasn’t gone down well with her. She is feeling that everyone is out just to make officers happy,” he said.

Meanwhile, PEC Registrar Munish Jindal, who was the organiser of the event, said the authorities were apologetic for whatever happened.
