Hoshiarpur: In two fire incidents in the district, wheat crop over 14 acres was gutted on Saturday. Standing crop on 12 acres was reduced to ashes at Chakk Moosa village. The cause of fire is not known. Of the land, 6 acres belonged to Lakhvir Singh, 3 acres to Baljinder Singh, both of Mannanhana village, and 1 acre each to Joginder Singh, Mohan Singh and Sohan Singh of Daata Kalan village. In another incident, crop on 2 acres was destroyed at Bharowal village. The crop belonged to Harjinder Singh.

110 labourers detained

Sangrur: More than 110 labourers were on Saturday taken into custody by the Sunam police when they reportedly tried to disrupt the process of loading gunny bags by arhtiyas from a Punsup godown at Ramnagar Sibia village. The bags were being taken by the arhtiyas to fill the procured wheat. Devinder Singh, SHO, said they had detained 113 palledars who were disrupting the loading of gunny bags. They would be released after the completion of the process, he said.
