A government teacher from Chandigarh, Pandit Rao Dharennavar, is spreading awareness among the masses to keep away from deras.
An assistant professor at post graduate government college in Chandigarh, Pandit Rao went to Satlok Aashram at Barwala in Hisar and sat on a dharna for an hour today. Later, the police persuaded him to lift the dharna.
Talking to The Tribune, Rao said he visited Barwala to urge the residents that instead of going to deras, they should follow the philosophy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Sri Bhagwad Geeta, Bible and Quran.
He said, “Dera heads are just propagating themselves. The need of the hour is to shun visiting these dears.”
Hailing from a remote village in Bijapur district in north Karnataka, Rao has already travelled to Panchkula, Ambala and Shahabad to spread his message against deras, honour killing and several decisions of khap panchayats.
He said he would go to other areas of Haryana to spread his message against the social evils.
Rao is a diehard crusader of the Punjabi language. Not only does he speak Punjabi, but has also written a poetry book in the language titled “Mai Tan Mai Han”.
He has translated Sri Jap Ji Sahib, Sri Sukhmani Sahib and Zafaranama into Kannada. He also taught Punjabi to students on his way to different places in Haryana.
