Ludhiana, December 14

They go to work everyday, but get salaries after four months. As many as 7,000 computer teachers appointed by the Education Department have been suffering since 2011.

The teachers said they didn’t have money even to pay their wards’ school fee. They lamented that they had to take bank loans to get their children admitted to schools.

Ranjan, spokesperson for the Computer Adhyapak Sanjha Front, Ludhiana, said, “The teachers were regularised in 2011. Since then, they have been receiving salaries after four months. It has become difficult for them to make ends meet.” A teacher, who has undergone two surgeries, said, “I have not received salary since August. I am not keeping well. One can well imagine my plight. Still, the authorities are making us suffer.” Convener of the front Jaswinder Singh said, “We do not get provident fund, pension or any medical assistance.” The teachers have to make round of the state headquarters to get their salaries released. Navjot Singh, another convenor, said, “There is no ex-gratia grant for computer teachers. A few days ago, a teacher met with an accident and died at a mall. The government did not lend any financial help to her family.”
