Waste Warriors and the Dalanwala Residents’ Welfare Association organised a cleanup drive on the Mohini Road, here today, in which Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Nitin Bhadauria also participated. Local residents expressed their dissatisfaction at the dump sites on the open plot at the end of Mohini Road and outside the Jwalajee apartments. People living in the vicinity complained about the unsightly mess and the pungent smell.

Bhaduriya accompanied by MLA Raj Kumar told nagar nigam employees to clear the dump outside the apartments and reassured residents that two small waste containers would be placed there at the earliest and would be emptied twice per day.

He appreciated the work of the volunteers and pledged to help find the owner of the open plot, near Summerfield School, so that a notice could be issued requesting that they maintain the cleanliness of their own land. He also offered to send nagar nigam employees to future clean-up events.

Twelve students from Doon Girls School, four volunteers and 14 Dalanwala residents joined the Waste Warriors staff to clean the stretch of road around the apartment blocks. The volunteers also managed to clean half of the large plot at the end of Mohini Road.

Dr Bhandari, president of the Dalanwala RWA said, “The cleanliness of our colony is not just the sole responsibility of the nagar nigam nor is it the job of Waste Warriors and the Residents’ Welfare Association. It is the collective responsibility of all local residents to ensure that their waste is managed properly and their surroundings are kept clean. It is our moral responsibility to include our children in these efforts to make them feel a sense of civic pride and become more environmentally aware.”
