Moga, May 31

The court of GS Johal, Judicial Magistrate (First Class), has issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Major Singh for June 3 in a ‘kabootarbaazi’ (illegal immigration) case.

The warrants have been issued afresh as the Moga police have failed to execute the same for the past year.

The ASI has been on regular duty in the district since April 18, 2015, when the court notice was first issued against him. He was summoned by the then court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Shilpa under Section 319 of the CrPC in a case registered at the NRI police station on August 18, 2012. Major Singh, Jagmel Singh alias Jagga, Kuldip Singh and Baljit Kaur were booked under sections 420 and 120B of the IPC.

Harwinder Singh of Bukkanwala village had alleged that the ASI and the others took Rs 13 lakh from him to send his daughter, Karamjit Kaur, to Canada by arranging her marriage with NRI Manteg Bahadur Singh. He alleged that neither did Manteg take her to Canada despite marrying her nor did the accused return his money. Advocate Ramesh Grover, Karamjit’s counsel, said the court had now directed the local SSP to arrest the cop and produce him at the hearing on June 3.
