Dehradun, June 28

Padmashree Professor D Balasubramanian has stressed that science cannot be divided by country, religion and race and asserted that scientific principals are established based on observations, logical and rational thinking.

He was addressing the Golden Jubilee celebration of Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology in Dehradun on Thursday. Explaining the meaning of science, Professor D Balasubramanian, who is an Emeritus and Distinguished Scientist and presently Director, L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, pointed out that any person having a logical rational can be called as scientist.

Citing examples, Prof Balasubramanian said famous scientists like M Faraday, C Darwin and G Mendel who were not subject specialist but they gave significant contribution to science. He said science cannot be divided by country, religion and race as it was committed to the betterment of overall mankind.

Professor D Balasubramanian, widely known as Prof Balu, reminded that India was the country among 82 other countries, who also got Independence in 1947 but it was only India who opted science and technology as one of the instrument for overall development of the country. “This was all due to the vision of our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was not a scientist but a logical thinker”, he said.

He also took opportunity to express his good wishes for the Institute on the occasion of its golden jubilee.

Earlier, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology’s Director Dr Meera Tiwari welcomed Professor D Balasubramanian to the institute. She apprised him about the research works being undertaken in the institute in the sphere of geology.

Former WIHG directors and scientists and other scientist from different scientific institutions of Dehradun attended the lecture programme.
