Chandigarh, March 25

Traffic jams were witnessed across the city due to the visit of Vice-President Hamid Ansari today.

After landing at the airport, he along with his convoy, left for Panjab University at 11.30 am. The traffic was halted at major junctions such as the Tribune Chowk, Transport light point and Madhya Marg from where his cavalcade passed through to ultimately culminate at the PU.The Tribune Chowk was the worst hit due to the brief halt of traffic. All four sides of the chowk witnessed traffic snarls. The traffic coming from the GMCH, Sector 32, towards the Tribune was jam-packed as commuters had to wait for around half-an-hour to pass through the chowk.

"The chowk is already so crowded and the VVIP visit makes it worse. There has to be a permanent solution to the problem," said Akanksha, a scooterist.

"I was going to meet my friend in Sector 9, but was stranded at the press light point," added Ankush, a car driver.

Though the traffic was halted for a few minutes, it was enough to cause inconvenience to the commuters.
