Water crisis in Doon has worsened: MP

Congress MP Manorama Dobriyal Sharma has raised the issue of the drinking water crisis in Dehradun in the Rajya Sabha.

 

Manorama said the drinking water crisis in Dehradun was worsening and sought assistance from the Centre for the construction of a proposed multipurpose dam on the Song river.

 

She said the Song river was at a distance of 25 km from the city and a multipurpose dam on it would help in meeting region’s irrigation requirements. He said Rs 534 crore would be needed to construct the dam. Manorama also raised the issue of delay in the construction of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Uttarakhand. She sought a written reply from the government over the pending construction of roads under the PMGSY.

 

Union Minister for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar said construction of 72 roads in Uttarakhand was pending as they all fall under the purview of the Forest Conservation Act. — TNS
