The state government has released a grant of Rs 23 crore for construction of a museum, research centre and a hostel for the research scholars at the Harappan site, Rakhigarhi. This was stated by Health Minister Anil Vij who visited the site today and discussed its significance with archaeologists.

Talking to media persons, Vij said based on the rich findings, archaeologists claimed it could have been the capital of the Indus Valley Civilization that existed about 5,000 years ago.

He said since Rakhigarhi seemed to be the biggest and the most crucial Harappan site in the world, the state government had decided to set up a museum there.

“The work to construct the museum is likely to start soon. The land and the site plan have been finalised”, he said adding that the village has come on the global map due to its ancient importance.
