State Sports and Health Minister Anil Vij said, “I am upset with boxer Vijender Singh’s decision of turning professional. The stakes were high and we all had expectations that Vijender would win medal for the country in the Olympics.”

Vij was talking to mediapersons after chairing a grievances meeting at Panchayat Bhawan here today.

He said, “We need to make some amendments in the sports policy so that this incident doesn’t leave any bad impact on sports and other sportspersons.”

Replying to a question, Vij said “As a sports minister my concern is to check what kind of affect it would have on other players and remedial steps would be taken.”

About the “Kayakalap” programme, he said, “The initiative has been taken to promote sanitation in hospitals. All district hospitals of the state will be inspected and parameters have been fixed for the same. While the best hospital will get Rs 50 lakh, the second best will get Rs 20 lakh. Other district hospitals that will perform well under this programme will be eligible for Rs 3 lakh.”

Vij said cath labs would be opened in five districts of the state on pilot project. Facilities such as MRI, CT scan and dialysis would be made available in each district and a trauma centre would be opened between Panipat and Delhi, for which land was being searched. Besides, laboratories would be upgraded in all hospitals so that people did not have to visit private laboratories for any test.

The minister said, “The recruitment process has started and to make sure that no doctor leaves his job, it has been decided to make their package lucrative. For this, the package patterns of adjoining states are being studied.”

During the meeting, Vij pulled up the officials for their lackadaisical attitude. In a case related to 2012, Vij ordered an inquiry against the then SDM of Pehowa. In another case, he ordered inquiry against a police official for not registering inquiry on time.
