Yoga guru Ramdev has said there is a need for teaching vedic and moral values as part of the syllabus in educational institutions, as this will bring the younger generation close to the ancient Indian culture and literature.

Ramdev said this while speaking at the inaugural session (Mahabhashyam) of the Vedic Gurukulum of Patanjali Yogpeeth. He said while basic and technical education was necessary, vedic and moral education should be included in the curriculum of schools and higher classes.

Acharya Balkrishan, vice chancellor of Patanjali Ayurvedic University, said vedic education, the Indian philosophy, discipline, yoga training, respect for teachers and giving students a uniform environment were the hallmarks of Vedic Gurukulum.

Students would be taught vedic studies at Vedic Gurukulum for two and a half years and would be sent to different parts of the country after completion of their studies, he said.
