For the first time, a meeting of the steering committee of 11 Central Universities from across the country was held in the Valley on Saturday to discuss the upcoming common entrance test in these varsities.
Officials of the Central University of Kashmir, who hosted the event at Gulmarg, said various academic issues were discussed during the event.
“Seven Vice Chancellors and representatives of the Central Universities discussed and approved the modalities in respect of the upcoming Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET-2017). Admission notice for various programmes offered by these universities is expected to be posted online by mid-March while the entrance test has been tentatively scheduled for the third week of May,” an official of the Central University of Kashmir said.
During the meeting, the decision of the Central University of Kashmir to conduct the admission tests for some integrated programmes on their own immediately following the declaration of the Class XII results was appreciated keeping in view the interests of the students of the state.
“However, the students from the Valley through the CUCET-2017 can have additional option to opt for various other integrated programmes offered by the universities across the country,” the official said.
The Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir, Mehraj ud Din Mir, impressed upon the consortium to prepone the admission processes of the CUCET-2017 in the interest of the students of the Valley, which was agreed upon.
“The VC impressed upon the members of the steering committee to explore ways and means for providing more opportunities to the students of J&K. Besides partnering in the smooth conduct of the admission test of the CUCET-2017, the committee took some very important decisions to forge more productive alliance through various academic initiatives, including faculty and student exchange programmes, among the participating universities,” the officials added.
