Jind, February 3

A day after an assistant posted in the office of the District Education Officer (DEO), Jind, was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 and a corruption case was registered against him last evening, the Vigilance Bureau (VB) today conducted raids to arrest Jind DEO Joginder Singh Hooda, who has been absconding since the arrest of his assistant.

“We have registered a corruption case against Mani Ram Bhura and DEO Joginder Singh Hooda. Bhura was today sent to judicial custody, while we are conducting raids to arrest Hooda, who has been absconding since the last evening,” said Sanjeev Kumar of the VB team today.

According to information, Mandhir Kaushik runs a private school in Shamllo Kalan village and has been making rounds of the DEO office for the last many days to get approval from the Haryana Education Department for extending his school till Class X. However, Bhura from the DEO’s office allegedly harassed him and demanded Rs 50,000 to clear his case for government approval.

Last evening a VB team along with CM’s OSD Amrinder Singh caught Bhura red-handed from outside of the DEO office.
