Mussoorie, July 7

Vasu Cinema is all set to revive its two silver screens under a new name—Ritz. The new avatar will take shape on July 14 to rejuvenate the old cinema culture that has gone out of fashion for the past 14 years in Mussoorie.

The technology similar to that of PVR cinemas is being used in the two screens, says Sandeep Sahni, one of the partners in the project. The whole project has cost around Rs 1 crore and the two theatres will consist of 89 seats each, says Rajat Agarwal, another partner.

Rajat Kapoor, another partner, says the objective is to revive the cinema culture that once flourished in the hill town but had disappeared lately. “The town boasted of more than six cinema halls since the British period. Efforts are on to bring the joy of the silver screen to the people once again,” he says.

Sunil, a resident of the town, says he was introduced to Spider Man through the cinema in Mussoorie. Kavya Singh, another resident, turns nostalgic while recalling the day she watched the film “Anmol Moti” for the first time at Vasu Cinema.

Ranu Singh, a movie freak, says the joy to watching films shot in Mussoorie is a special experience. “Ghar Ka Chirag”, “Karam”, “Doosri Dulhan” were some films that were shot in Mussoorie. Queries for tickets for July 14 (first day, first show) have already started pouring in.
