Tourism Minister Dinesh Dhanai inaugurated the Tehri Vasantotsav 2016 amid beating of traditional drums at New Tehri on Friday.

Students of various educational institutions marched in a procession around the town depicting tableaux based on various social and environmental themes. Dhanai greeted people on Basant Panchami and said fairs and festivals were integral to the culture of the state. The Vasantotsav would provide employment to local artistes and craftsmen.

The minister highlighted his achievements when he was the MLA of the Tehri constituency. He also solicited cooperation from people for the expansion of the bus terminus at new Tehri.

He reiterated his commitment to providing jobs to local youths through the development of the Tehri Lake as an adventure sports hub. Sona Sajwan, president of the Zila Panchayat, thanked the minster for his support to the Vasantotsav. Meanwhile, LED bulbs were sold at subsidised rates to villagers under the save electricity programme. Saint Anthony School, Adarsh Vidyalaya, Bhagirathi Vidyalaya and Sarovar School were adjudged first, second and third, respectively, in the tableau competition.
