Srinagar, July 6

The fasting Muslims and others are facing inconvenience due to interrupted electricity and water supplies in Kashmir, which has been reeling under hot weather for the past three days.

Today was the 18th day of the Ramzan — the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. This year’s Ramzan is also said to be the hottest in recent history and Muslims will have to fast for the longest duration (up to 16 hours).

“With the soaring mercury, the past three days have been difficult. Last night, power was cut off till morning. The government has failed to provide better civic facilities during the Ramzan,” said a resident of Boulevard.

Officials of the Met Department, however, have predicted rain from Tuesday with the monsoon is getting active in the northern Himalayan foothill.

“There will be rainfall at regular intervals from tomorrow due to active monsoon in the northern Himalayas,”said Sonum Lotus, Director Metrological Department.

The official said with the possibility of light rain or thundershowers, the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 30°C and15 °C, respectively.

With increasing temperatures across the Valley, locals are heading to various tourist places, including the Dal Lake, Shalimar, Harwan, Jhelum.

The downpour from tomorrow is expected to bring down the soaring mercury, which touched above 32°C on Sunday.
