Sirsa, May 4

One more farmer committed suicide in Sirsa district reportedly due to crop damage. The deceased, Harnek Singh (55), was from Lakranwali village. He consumed some poisonous substance in his field yesterday.

Harnek’s family said he was distressed due to damage to his crop caused by rain and hailstorm. “This season, he hoped to make up for the loss on account of lower prices his produce fetched last year,” one of the members of the family said. Harnek had taken 13 acres on lease.

A couple of days back, Vinod Kumar (30) of Sirsa’s Hanjeera village had committed suicide due to damage to his crops and non-inclusion of his name for relief.
