University to hold chrysanthemum show

Ludhiana: To make public aware about the beauty of chrysanthemums and their suitability for commercial growing and landscape use, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is gearing up to hold a two-day ‘Chrysanthemum Show’ on December 8 and 9.

Ludhiana: To make public aware about the beauty of chrysanthemums and their suitability for commercial growing and landscape use, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is gearing up to hold a two-day ‘Chrysanthemum Show’ on December 8 and 9. The Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, and the Estate Organisation, PAU, will jointly organise the show at the Open Air Theatre, Mela Ground, PAU, Ludhiana. Dr BS Dhillon, vice-chancellor, PAU, will inaugurate the show on December 8 at 12:30 pm. The show is organised every year in the memory of a renowned Punjabi poet Bhai Vir Singh, who had ample love for flowers and wrote many poems about chrysanthemums. According to Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, PAU, the department will organise a competition for the first time this year on public demand. The competition will be held among the individuals, amateurs and the institutions, he informed.

Training courses

The Directorate of Extension Education of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will conduct two training courses in December. Dr RS Sidhu, director, Extension Education, said, “A five-day training programme on value addition to agricultural bi-products through utility and decorative articles will be held from December 7-11 for the home scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).” Besides, another training course on high density planting canopy management in fruit crops will be organised on December 10 and 11 for the horticulture development officers, district extension specialists and KVK scientists. — TNS
