Chandigarh, March 27

In two another similar cases, Unitech Limited’s chairman and its two MDs, who are still at large, were awarded three-year jail term by the UT State Consumer Commission for non-compliance of its order.

They were penalised as they had not allotted plots as promised.

Romesh Chandra, chairman, Unitech Limited, Ajay Chandra, managing director, and Sanjay Chandra, managing director, were sentenced and fined Rs 10,000 each.

Compensation was awarded to Sector 42 residents Amit Kohli and Bharti Khanna, who had purchased a flat in a “Gardens”, situated in Mega Township, Uniworld City, Sector 97, Mohali. Kohli was given a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh, along with the refund of the deposited money, in September 2016. While Unitech was asked to give a compensation of Rs 3 lakh along with refund of the money deposited in June 2016 to Khanna.

The company, however, did not comply with the orders. This is the fourth time in the last two months that real estate firm Unitech’s three top bosses have been awarded three years jail term for not following UT Consumer Commission’s order of refunding money to an applicant, who have not been given the possession of residential unit on time.
