On the 37th day of the agitation by unemployed PTI teachers at the tehsil complex in Jalalabad, their families joined the dharna. They disrupted traffic on the national highway and walked through main roads, shouting slogans against the state government.

The Jalalabad segment is represented by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.

The families of nine teachers, including four women, whose fast atop the water tank entered the sixth day, also came to the border town to express solidarity.

They warned that the state government would be responsible if something untoward happens to the teachers observing the indefinite fast.

Unemployed PTI Teachers Union state president Gurlabh Singh Bhola, district president Ashok Ladhuka, block president Mamta Rani and Government Teachers Union district president Surinder Kamboj alleged that the SAD-BJP alliance government had been pursuing anti-employee policies for more than nine years.

The representatives of different NGOs said they would extend their cooperation to the protesters if the government did not issue appointment letters to 646 unemployed teachers across the state.

Union spokesman Rajpal Warwal said that a deputation, which held a meeting with the sub-divisional administration today, demanded cancellation of cases registered against the teachers for climbing atop the water tank and protesting against the visit of the Deputy Chief Minister.

A meeting with the CM should be fixed soon to settle the issue, members of the deputation said.
