RSS affiliate Rashtriya Singh Sangat said here today that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had promised to allot land for the reconstruction of Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahib, which was damaged during the anti-Sikh riots in 1984. The 450-year-old shrine, which was located at Har Ki Pauri on the banks of the Ganga, is associated with Guru Nanak.
The Sangat’s national general secretary, Avinash Jaiswal, said: “A site for the shrine will be allotted on the banks of the Ganga near Haridwar railway station, where members of the community have been staging a dharna.” The delegation, led by Jaiswal, had met Rawat on Friday.
He said Rawat also promised to organise kirtan at his official residence to mark the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh. Subsequently, the state government will organise a state-level function as part of the celebrations.
