Mohali, November 13

The signing of commercial agreement between King’s College Hospital, London, and Indo UK Healthcare Private Limited in presence of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his United Kingdom’s counterpart David Cameron in London today, has paved the way for the entry of UK’s leading hospital, King’s College Hospital in Mohali, here.

The UK hospital, which will entail a foreign direct investment of Rs 1,000 crore, will come up in Medicity, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority’s (GMADA) project at New Chandigarh (Mullanpur) here. The agreement was signed today between Lord Kerslake, chairman of King’s College and Dr Ajay Rajan Gupta, director, Indo UK Healthcare Private Limited.

Sources said the project in Mohali would be the first one of a proposed 11 new Indo-UK Institutes for Health that would be developed across India with an investment of whopping one billion pounds.

The sources claimed that the foreign hospital would set up an ultra advanced knee implant manufacturing facility, the first of its own kind in the country, while patients would be operated upon here.

A delegation of the King’s Hospital had apprised the Punjab Government of their requirement of at least 250 acre of land for creating adequate infrastructure under the project.
