Sonepat, June 26

Kusum (14) and Prabha (20), both sisters of Jassia village in Rohtak district, were reportedly drowned in the Yamuna while taking a bath at Meemarpur Ghat this morning.

They had come to the Ghat with their family members to take a holy dip.

Sources said because of the recent rain in hilly areas, the flow of water had increased considerably in the river. Both sisters entered the river and reportedly slipped into a deep ditch full of mud.

Their family members raised the alarm and the police was informed. Their bodies were taken out with the help of divers. The bodies were handed over to the family members after a post-mortem examination at the Civil Hospital. — OC
