The operation was launched after a tip-off about the presence of militants in a residential area.

“When the suspected house was cordoned off, militants opened fire on the security forces, triggering a gunfight,” a police official said.

Reports reaching from the area said that as soon as the encounter started, the local village youth took to the streets and started a protest.
